Emmanuel & Bethany Tsoutsas

Athens, Greece

Emmanuel & Bethany Tsoutsas live in Athens, Greece and are involved in Church Planting through the Glyfada Evangelical Church. They met at a Refugee community center, that Emmanuel was managing, and after almost two years of dating long-distance Bethany moved to Greece where they got married in October of 2018.

Emmanuel is 26 years old from Athens, Greece. He has studied nursing at a private college and he is furthering his Theological Studies at the Greek Bible College. Emmanuel was born and raised in a Christian home and from a really young age he was exposed to ministry due to his parents serving full time at the Christian drug rehabilitation center his father founded. After graduating college, he served at an orphanage in Tanzania, has worked with refugees as a camp coordinator and NGO admin for a year on the Greek island of Lesvos, and as a Refugee community center manager in Athens for a year and a half where he met Bethany. Emmanuel has been attending the Greek Evangelical Church of Glyfada for 2,5 years and is part of the church’s Church Planting Incubator.

Bethany is 21 years old from Van Buren, Arkansas. She was born and raised in a Christian home and was also exposed to ministry from a really young age, due to her parents being on staff at their local church, where her father now serves as an elder. After graduating High School, Bethany attended a six-month Discipleship Training School with YWAM (Youth With A Mission), where she was sent to Greece to serve among the refugees. After completing the DTS she began working full time in the office of her local church, served as a leader in the Youth group, and as a Sunday school teacher at their outreach for children at risk (“Hope Kids”). Currently she is focused on learning the Greek culture and is attending Greek language school. In the fall of 2019, she will be joining Emmanuel in furthering her education by attending the International Students’ Program at the Greek Bible College.

During the six months prior to their wedding, both Emmanuel and Bethany separately, felt a strong desire to explore the possibility of Church Planting as they believe in the power of the Gospel to transform lives through the work of the local church. After months of praying they made the decision to stay in Greece as the Evangelical community there is a minority, with only 0,3% (30.000) of the population (11.000.000) being born-again followers of Christ. Soon after their wedding they were given the opportunity to join the Church planting efforts of the Evangelical Church of Glyfada in an area called Pagkrati. Immediately, they fell in love with the area and the endless opportunities to build a community of faith in that unreached suburb of Athens, among University students. Currently they are searching for an apartment in Pagkrati, their hope is to move there in the spring of 2019.
